LaSalle, Ontario is one of Canada’s oldest communities, named after the French explorer Renee Robert cavalier de la Salle. Pre-dating confederation and founded in the late 1700s, in 1991 LaSalle redefined itself as a town and instantly became one of the larger communities within the Windsor-Essex County with a population of almost 30,000. LaSalle is known for being one of the region’s most wooded and biologically diverse areas and is considered to be a natural heritage area, housing relatively undisturbed ecological sites with a diverse array of wildlife.

The town of LaSalle rests along the eastern bank of the Detroit River and is bordered by Amherstburg to the south and Tecumseh to the east. To the north is the city of Windsor which LaSalle acts as a bedroom community to; with quick driving times to access to the larger city’s amenities. LaSalle also sees a quick drive to the ambassador bridge for access to Detroit, Michigan and will be an even closer drive to the Gordie Howe international bridge upon it’s completion in 2020. The bridge will also feature walk-ways and bike lanes for pedestrian traffic.

LaSalle is anticipated to grow from 30,000 in population to upwards of 40,000 in the next 10 years. Jobs and Recreation in LaSalle

The town’s largest form of employment is provided by the manufacturing industry but has seen increases in retail and educational services in recent years. A third of the towns population finds employment within different communities throughout the region, mainly in Windsor which sees over 8000 workers from LaSalle within its business community. In terms of education, LaSalle offers an array of public and private schools and quick access to both the St.Clair College and University of Windsor.

As for recreation and entertainment, of course what lies in Windsor and Detroit are just a quick drive away but the town of LaSalle hosts a variety of its own community events and attractions. The annual Strawberry Festival has grown to be one of the region’s premiere family-friendly events. The annual LaSalle Craft Beer Festival is in it’s third year and has become one of the region’s most beloved food and drink festivals. The town’s newly completed Civic Centre also hosts live concerts throughout the summer as well as movie screenings for the community at no charge.

The town acts as a haven for lovers of water sports and boating, boasting 870 public marina berths, tying the community with Lakeshore for the greatest amount of public water access in the region. LaSalle also houses Essex Golf and Country Club which has hosted various PGA tournaments. Although the club is members-only, there are a number of public golf courses in the area including Seven Lakes and Dominion.

The town of LaSalle also features over 30 parks and 25 kilometres of paved trails as well as the Vollmer culture and recreation complex which offers a hub of activity for people of all ages with interests in ice-skating, swimming, soccer, baseball, general exercise and a myriad of special events.
